What You Need To Know About Self Hypnosis

by Dana Goldberg

Self hypnosis is a widely used form of regular hypnosis that involves a single person hypnotizing and being hypnotized at the same time. Many people do this as a therapeutic process, but it is also good for simple relaxation purposes. There are many reasons why it is a good alternative to regular hypnosis, but there is much to consider.

Because you enter such a deep sleep so quickly, a quick hypnosis nap can make you feel great. It is more commonly used for emotional pain and troubles, though. Many therapists use this option because it requires the patient to want to change. You cannot be hypnotized if you do not want to be. Wanting to correct an issue is half of the battle.

The problem lies in someone's trust issues. You may have a problem that you whole-heartedly want to fix but you may not be comfortable with letting someone in your head, so to speak. If there is the smallest amount of mistrust, your mind will not let you be fully hypnotized and the exercise can be pointless. This is where learning self-hypnosis is key.

A trance can be faked easily enough for a therapist. Many people do this because they want to feel like they are making progress. They also do not want to insult their therapists by letting on that there is any lack of trust. Self-hypnosis is great because you cannot fake trusting yourself. You can put yourself in a trance and then think of all appropriate things or repeat the necessary thoughts to let the healing begin. Your therapist will not be insulted and will be actually able to help you perfect your method. Make sure to communicate with him or her.

It is a great way to quickly put yourself to sleep if you keep tossing and turning or to gain a fifteen minute cat-nap on your lunch break. Set a loud alarm and get extremely well rested by entering a deep sleep almost immediately. It can even relieve pain for some people. You can give yourself a bit of help when another professional is not there to put you in a trance.

You must research the techniques on your own. Some might not suit you or some may be inappropriate for your purposes. You must talk to a doctor or therapist before doing any of this to ensure that you do not do any harm. When it comes to your health, do your research well.
