What Are Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wind Energy? - Windmills For Energy

by Gary Ashby

It is almost impossible to imagine a world without electricity. Most of us take energy supplies for granted but now more people are looking for alternative methods to power their homes. If you are also thinking about switching your electricity source to a renewable form of energy then you should learn about what are advantages and disadvantages of wind energy for home use.

Perhaps the main reason for choosing to power your property from wind energy is that it causes no environmental pollution. Most electricity is still created from the combustion of fossil fuels which lead to an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and sulphuric acid present in our atmosphere. Data now shows that there is a link between the change in the planet's climate and the amount of greenhouse gases we pump in to the atmosphere.

Of course another wonderful advantage of wind energy is that it can never run out as like fossil fuels. There is always going to be some degree of wind available to power a turbine. The financial savings are also high in most homeowner's minds. By installing a wind turbine to power your home you can potentially save thousands of dollars over many years.

There are only a handful of disadvantages that are associated with wind power as an energy source. Obviously they will only be viable if you live in a locality that has regular wind. Urban areas will generally receive less wind then rural or coastal settings.

The initial expenditure involved with the buying and installation of a wind turbine may also be seen as a negative factor. Some households may simple not have access to the funds required, though today it can be possible to receive a grant from your local authority to cover part of the cost.

Another negative can be the sound and sight of the wind turbine. Some people say they are unsightly and create an annoying noise, though most modern designs overcome these issues.
