Italian Wine: The Best From Europe

by Jason Myers

Europe's wine nations consist of France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Hungary, and England. Italy used to be known as "Oenotria" by the Greeks, which means: the land of wine. Italy manufactures more wine compared to any other nation in the world.

Some of the famous wine-producing regions in Italy are Valle D'Aosta, Lombardy, Veneto, Umbria, and, specially, Tuscany. The type of the land that produces the wonderful grapes that are used to make fine wine is one of charm and romance. Therefore it stands to reason that the wine making areas of the world are also the most commonly picked destinations for newlyweds.

Even if Italy produces the most wine, that doesn't tell that it has the wine market cornered ...or the honeymoon market, for that matter. The wine made in France is probably the country most famous for producing excellent wines. In fact, when most people think of excellent wine, they think of French wine first. France has a lengthy and storied wine making history, and French wine has turned into somewhat of the "gold standard" by which all other wines are assessed.

Spain is quickly becoming a wine-producing country to be considered. The wines that are made in Spain taste fruitier rather than woody. Most of the success that Spain is enjoying as a wine making region can be credited to their fastidious attention to quality.

Germany works hard to be a contender in the world of wine producers. It has had a difficult time gaining any respect. Germany is known for beer and breaking into the wine industry has proven to be a difficult undertaking. But they are working on the issue and they are creating some progress. There are a lot of fine wines that are created in Europe, and you absolutely can say that Europe is wine country.
